Solutions to Air Pollution & Flooding
How to ease suffering in China and India...
Air Pollution
Transferring to clean energy sources (such as liquid petroleum gas and ethanol) for cook stoves, clean energy for transport/vehicles, and industries/factories will significantly reduce the air pollution. In addition, reducing traffic by encouraging people not to drive as much is another way to lower the levels of air pollution and ease suffering for the Indian and Chinese people. Shifting to natural gas vehicles is also a way to lower the levels. The government can restrict burning biomass and fossil fuels to decrease the amount of emissions they give off. Better management/policies and use of clean renewable sources are needed in order to lower air pollution. Putting taxes on polluting industries is a way of paying for healthcare to help the people that have been affected. Limiting the burning of coal in China will have a major impact on the air pollution as well.
Finding clean, renewable sources to produce energy will reduce the need for coal. By reducing the coal emissions, it will reduce air pollution.
Reducing the use of indoor cook stoves that use biomass is the major way of reducing air pollution.
Flooding
India and China should build new infrastructure to withstand the flooding. Working with outside organizations, such as the United Nations, could provide assistance with these efforts. Building dams would also help control the water flow, and stop the overflowing of the Yangtze River. The Three Gorges River was built for that reason: to control the Yangtze River's waters and prevent yearly floods that take the lives of thousands. Another way to ease the suffering is to convert canals into roads and wetlands to better absorb the floods.
